It’s official. I am in deadline hell. Sugar and Spice is due to my lovely editor at the end of the week. Today is Wednesday. So I’ve got today, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to finish the story. If I’m lucky I can add Sunday to the list. This is not good.

There are some authors who, when down to the wire, pull out something like 5,000 words a day. I am not one of those authors. At least I don’t think I am. See, I tend to finish a story long before its due date. I like to send it out to my critique partners or simply ignore it for at least a week before going in and re-editing the thing.

This is not my m.o.

But I’m not to blame. No, I place that hefty burden solely on the shoulders of my story. My characters have refused to speak up. They are not telling me their tale. Bastards! Night after night I sit in front of my computer screen and pray for words. And I get…nothing. bupkiss. nada.

I wish I could call what I’m going through a writer’s block. At least then I could get some sympathy. Unfortunately, its not. I seem quite capable of writing thousands of words in a day. Just not on this story. If anything that makes me feel worse. I feel like I failed my characters by not being able to write their story. On TIME!!!!.

*Sighs.*As it stands Say My Name is officially complete at over 14,000 words. And Encore, the story I started yesterday is already over the 1600 word mark. So I’m fire. Just not for Sugar and Spice.

Well, just to show you that I am in fact still a writer, I’ll post a snippet of Say My Name. Tell me what you think.

She glanced at him, sharply and strode into the room. “What have you got there?” she said with a gesture to the items in his hands.

“Your letters.”

She stopped just a few feet away from him. “You kept them.” She whispered the words as she reached out for them. For a moment Shane didn’t do anything, but stare at her. He was trying to decide if he should give them. For so long, too long they had been his only saving grace. And then he remembered that he had the real thing in front of him. “Of course I kept them,” he murmured as he handed the letters to her.

She lifted her head. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just…hoped, I guess, that you would keep them.”

“Well, you got your wish, sweetheart.” He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. When he pulled back, he could see the surprise in her eyes. He understood the reason. Despite their sexual history, they rarely kissed. And never so unexpectedly.

Shane was switching things up. And Nora was not good about change.

Before she could protest his actions or worse, tell him not to do it again, Shane dipped his head and kissed her soundly. Unlike their initial kiss, there was nothing chaste or tender about it. He found her lips parted in surprise and took advantage of it. Shane’s tongue slipped into to tangle with hers, coaxing her into a response. He didn’t have to wait long to receive it. Nora sighed into their wicked kiss and lifted her hands. Her fingers clung to his shirt and pulled him closer to her.

Heeding her unspoken demand, Shane deepened the kiss until he felt he was drowning in it. Belatedly, he realized the drowning feeling wasn’t just his fanciful imagination. His lungs were starving for air. He pulled back and took a deep breath.

The sight that greeted him when he opened his eyes made him want to go back for me.

 Until next time…
